标题:Cybercrime ring steals up to $1 billion from banks using malware[恶意软件]

网络犯罪团伙利用恶意软件从银行盗取高达10亿美金

A multinational gang of cyber criminals has stolen as much as $1 billion from as many as 100 financial institutions around the world in about two years, Russian computer security company Kaspersky Lab said on Saturday. The company said it was working with Interpol[国际刑事警察组织(International Criminal Police Organization)], Europol and authorities from different countries to uncover more details of what it called an unprecedented robbery. The gang, which Kaspersky dubbed[被称为的;译制的] Carbanak, takes the unusual approach of stealing directly from banks, rather than posing as[冒充] customers to withdraw money from companies’ or individuals’ accounts. It said the gang included cyber criminals from Europe, including Russia and Ukraine, as well as China.

These attacks again underline the fact[强调事实] that criminals will exploit[开发,开拓;剥削;开采] any vulnerability[易损性;弱点] in any system. It also highlights the fact that no sector can consider itself immune to[免疫的;免于……的,免除的] attack and must constantly[不断地;时常地] address(v.) their security procedures.

Sanjay Virmani, director of Interpol Digital Crime Center

Carbanak used carefully crafted[精心制作的] emails to trick pre-selected employees into opening malicious[恶意的;恶毒的;蓄意的;怀恨的] software files, a common technique known as spear phishing[鱼叉式网络钓鱼]. They were then able to get into the internal network and track down administrators’ computers for video surveillance[视频监视]. In this way, Kaspersky said, the criminals learned how the bank clerks worked and could mimic[模仿,摹拟] their activity when transferring[转移] the money. In some cases, Carbanak inflated account balances before pocketing the extra funds through a fraudulent transaction[欺诈交易][Carbanak通过欺诈性交易在取走额外的非法资金之前,先扩充该账户的可用余额]. Because the legitimate[合法的;正当的;合理的;正统的] funds were still there, the account holder would not suspect a problem. Kaspersky said Carbanak also remotely seized control of ATMs and ordered them to dispense cash[出钞] at a predetermined[预定的] time, when a gang member would be waiting to collect the money.
