近日，百度和谷歌两大搜索引擎分别发布了2018年度热门搜索榜单，一起看看吃瓜群众都在关注什么吧。
百度（Baidu）
China's top search engine put together the report “based on trillions of trending queries” to present a “social collective memory” of internet users, said Baidu; 802 million people have come online in China as of August, and many of them use Baidu to look things up daily.
“基于每天数十亿次的网民搜索请求，通过对海量搜索热词的记录分析，以真实、客观的数据，呈现出中国网民每年的‘社会集体记忆’。”
Overall, Chinese internet users were transfixed on a mix of sports events, natural disasters, politics and entertainment, a pattern that also prevails in Google's year-in-search.
transfix
表示“使不能动弹；使呆住”，英文解释为“to make a person or animal unable to move or stop looking at something because they are so interested, surprised, or frightened”，举个🌰：
The conference delegates were transfixed by her speech.
与会代表们被她的发言惊呆了。
还有另一个意思是“刺穿，戳破；钉住”（to make a hole through something or someone with a sharp pointed weapon），举个🌰：

prevail
主要有两个含义，
1）表示“（观点，原则）占上风，占优势，获胜”，英文解释为“If a proposal, principle, or opinion prevails, it gains influence or is accepted, often after a struggle or argument.”举个🌰：
Justice will prevail.
正义终将获胜。
Common sense prevails/Reason prevails (=a sensible decision is made)常识/理智占了上风
2）表示“盛行；普遍存在”，英文解释为：If a situation, attitude, or custom prevails in a particular place at a particular time, it is normal or most common in that place at that time. 举个🌰：
A similar situation prevails in China.
同样的情况在中国也普遍存在。
On Baidu, the most popular queries of the year are:
· 世界杯
World Cup: China shares its top search with the rest of the world. Despite China's lackluster performance in the tournament, World Cup managed to capture a massive Chinese fan base who supported an array of foreign teams. People filled bars in big cities at night to watch the heart-thumping matches, and many even trekked north to Russia to show their support.

表示“加剧，激起”，英文解释为“to cause something to increase”，如：stoke fear/anger/envy ，举个🌰：
Rising oil prices stoked inflation.

The scandal has stoked public outrage.
这一丑闻激起了公愤。
此外，stoke还可以指“给…添加（煤、柴火等燃料）”（to add more coal or wood to a fire），举个🌰：

表示“混乱，凌乱，杂乱；混乱（或凌乱、杂乱）之物”，英文解释为“If a place, event, or situation is a shambles or is in a shambles, everything is in disorder.”，举个🌰：
My house is in an absolute shambles.
我的房子里凌乱不堪。
· 苹果发布会
Apple launch: The American smartphone giant is still getting a lot of attention in China even as local Android competitors like Huawei and Oppo chip away at its market share. Apple is also fighting a legal battle with chipmaker Qualcomm, which wanted the former to stop selling certain smartphone models in China.

The story of Yanxi Palace: The historical drama of backstabbing concubines drew record-breaking views for its streamer and producer iQiyi, China's answer to Netflix that floated in the U.S. in February. The 70-episode show was watched not only in China but also across more than 70 countries around the world.

作动词表示“以卑鄙的手段陷害；为个人私利而出卖他人”，这个词非常直观，back-stab，字面上看“从后背，刺伤”意思就是“暗箭伤人，背后中伤”英文解释为“the act of secretly doing bad things to someone else, especially saying bad things about them, in order to gain an advantage for yourself”，此处backstabbing作为形容词。

表示“（旧时的）妾，姨太太，小老婆”，英文解释为“a woman in the past who lived with and had sex with a man who already had a wife or wives, but who was socially less important than the wives”，前几天，这里也出现过：故宫真的真的出口红了！
sb's answer to sb/sth
表示“与…相当（或同样好）的人（或物）；…的对应物”，英文解释为“If something or someone is the answer to another thing or person, it is or they are considered to be similar or as good.”，举个🌰：
The Space Needle is Seattle’s answer to the Eiffel Tower.

这里介绍的是爱奇艺，中国版的Netflix，（iQiyi, China's answer to Netflix），通常提到Weibo的时候也会介绍为中国版的Twitter，常见的有几种说法（不完全统计）：

3) Weibo, the Chinese equivalent to Twitter (NPR NEWS)

百度百科的介绍是：meme (/ˈmiːm/ )是指在同一个文化氛围中，人与人之间传播的思想、行为或者风格，音译为媒母、米姆、谜米、弥母，又名模因、拟子等。
其实「meme」指的就是在网上迅速传播，流行起来的一些概念（或图像、视频等）等东西，可以直接解释成我们常说「梗」，词典中定义为：an idea, image, video, etc. that is spread very quickly on the internet；举个🌰：
