Christmas markets bring Shanghai holiday spirit

From CCTV.com

In Shanghai, about 20 Christmas markets have been set up this year. CCTV reporter Hu Nan visited the biggest one on the Christmas Eve[圣诞节前夕].

"I'm now at Kerry Center[嘉里中心], the business and fashion center[商业时尚中心] amid downtown area[市中心], Shanghai. Unlike traditional Chinese New Year, which calls for family reunion[家庭团聚] back at home, Christmas reason in China is mainly about 'going out'," Hu said.

"People spend time with friends to have dinner, to see a movie, or come to the Christmat market to embrace the Christmas atmosphere. Well, here we have this mulled wine[加香料的热葡萄酒] and let me ask this handsome booth keeper[摊贩] a few questions."

"I've been in Shanghai for one year, being in China for 6 years. This is a German recipe[德国配方;食谱], they call it glue wine. Inside we got red wine, cinnamon[肉桂] and a lot of love," said Ben Potter, booth keeper.

"I have been in Shanghai for about 9 years but I have been to other places for Christmas before, so sometimes in China. I am going to Thailand, the day after tomorrow. So I will be leaving tomorrow, I am just doing some Christmas shopping here," some visitors said.

"It's very nice, it's very cold. Christmas markets in Shanghai, It's a very nice one. It's in city center[市中心] so you don't have to pay entrance fee[交纳入场费]. There are very nice trees in the back."

"We're here to join in the fun[赶个热闹;凑热闹]. It's a good way to relax after work. Actually, I think looking for delicious foods is the best part[对我来说,寻找美食是最棒的]."

Merry Christmas
