Virender Sehwag: Hi Sadhguru, this is Virender Sehwag, and I want to ask a question. Why do people in life running after money?

Sadhguru: Sehwag... Why is somebody running after money? No, a whole lot of people around you are running after the ball, aren't they? (Laughs) It's wrong to assume that everybody is running after money. It is just that we have made money the currency or a common... Instead of being on barter system... if you're on barter system, if I gave you a ball, you will give me a bat then we would be doing that. But now, you can buy a ball and a bat with money. You can buy a home and a car with money. You can buy food and comfort with money. So money has become a common transaction tool, and people need that to live.

Sadhguru（萨古鲁）：Sehwag......为何有些人会追逐金钱？不，你周边的许多人都在追逐那只球，不是吗？（笑）认为每个人都在追逐金钱是错误的。只是我们把金钱变成了货币或者一种共通的......不是在以物易物，如果你在以物易物系统内，如果我给你一个球，你会给我一个拍子，我们会那样做。但现在，你能用钱买一只球和一个拍子。你可以用钱买一处住宅和一辆车。你能用钱买到食物和舒适。因此，金钱已经变成了一种共通的交易工具，并且人们需要金钱来生存。

Now, how they want to live - they don't want to live well, they want to live better than their neighbor. Because of that, money becomes important. If they just want to live, money would be a small part of their life. But now they want to live better than their neighbor, bigger than their neighbor. So, run behind the money becomes an endless run. Otherwise, in a short period of time, what you need for your lifetime, you can create in terms of money and then do what is significant for your life rather than running after a tool which was just created to simplify transactions.

目前，他们想过怎样的生活——他们不想活得好，他们想比邻居生活得更好。就因为这个，金钱变得重要了。如果他们仅仅想活，金钱就会只占生活的一小部分。但现在他们想比他们的邻居生活得更好，比邻居更厉害。所以，对金钱的追逐变得无休无止。否则，在短时间里，你一辈子所需要的东西，你可以用金钱来创造，然后就做对你生命有意义的事，而不是去追逐这个只是为了简化交易而发明的工具。

Instead of simplifying transactions, it has complicated human life. That is because money is just a process but a whole lot of people are beginning to think that money is a goal by itself. Money is not a goal, I want you to remember. It is only a process. It's an enabling process - if you want to buy food, you need money. If you want to buy comfort, you need money. But now, you're trying to buy a life with money. You will not succeed, for sure.

它不仅没有简化交易，反而使人类生活变得复杂。那是因为金钱只是个过程，但大多数人开始认为金钱本身是一个目标。金钱不是目标，我想要你记住。金钱仅仅是一个过程。这是一个赋能的过程——如果你想买食物，你需要金钱。如果你想要购买舒适，你需要金钱。而现在，你试图要用金钱购买一种人生。你肯定不会成功的。

It doesn't matter whether you have ten rupees today or 10 million tomorrow or 10 billion tomorrow, I have seen many billionaire beggars still with the same mentality - 'where is the next buck?' Money is only a tool of transaction. It is not a goal by itself, it's only a process.

无论你今天有十个卢比，还是明天有一千万或者一百亿卢比，我见过许多身价亿万的乞丐仍然抱着同样的心态——“下一块钱在哪里？”金钱只是交易的一个工具。它本身并不是一个目标，它只是一个过程。
