BYD enriches “e” lineup with e2 BEV hitting the market

Monika GasgooAutoNews 2022-06-21

Shanghai (Gasgoo)- BYD's all-new BEV model, the e2, hit the market on September 2 with its four trim levels priced from RMB89,800 to RMB119,800, further enriching the “e” lineup after BYD closing the first seven months with an outstanding growth in NEV sales.

The e2 was first seen that the Auto Shanghai 2019 in April and rolled off the production line at the Changsha plant in early June.

The BYD e2 retains BYD's signature “Dragon Face” design with an unmistakable massive grille flanked by slim headlights. On the upper edge of the grille, there is a blue nameplate with “BYD” lettering in the exact middle, which is different from the Chinese characters adopted for that of BYD's Dynasty Series.

The fast-charging port is covered by a square plate at the right side of the front grille, quite a smart camouflage. Air induction openings flanking the bumper will help reduce the air noise.

The BYD e2 measures 4,240mm long, 1,760mm wide and 1,530mm tall with a wheelbase spanning 2,610mm, fitting the position of a compact vehicle.

At the rear end, taillight cluster stretches across the entire tailgate with the “BUILD YOUR DREAMS” lettering in the middle. Its sports essence is further accentuated by a black diffuser. Without showing off various performance figures, the e2 combines the dynamic design taking the economy and practicability into consideration.

The BYD e2 offers an interior with design of simplicity, elegant materials and exquisite workmanship. The full liquid dashboard and the 10.1-inch liquid display at the center console are rather noticeable. It is worth mentioning that the eye-catching 10.1-inch pad is outfitted with BYD's DiLink in-car intelligent system.

Powering the vehicle is a permanent magnet synchronous motor that can generate up to 70kW. Two NEDC-rated ranges are offered based on the battery pack's capacity—the 35.2kWh battery enables a range of 305km, while the 47.3kWh battery pack can support the vehicle travel up to 405km (Photo source: BYD's WeChat account).
