Beijing (Gasgoo)- Tesla (Beijing) Co., Ltd. and Tesla (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. have filed a recall plan with China's State Administration of Market Regulation encompassing over 1 million Tesla vehicles in the country, according to a document released by the Administration on May 12.

The recall plan involves certain imported Model S, Model X, Model 3 vehicles, as well as some of the domestically produced Model 3 and Model Y vehicles manufactured between January 12, 2019, and April 24, 2023, totaling 1,104,622 units. The recall will start on May 29, 2023.

Vehicles within the scope of this recall lack the option for driver-selected regenerative braking strategy and may not provide sufficient reminders for prolonged and deep acceleration pedal presses. The combination of these factors increases the likelihood of unintentional prolonged acceleration, posing potential collision risks and safety hazards.

This recall is conducted following a defect investigation initiated by China’s State Administration for Market Regulation. Tesla plans to utilize OTA technology to remotely update the affected vehicles, thereby reducing the risk of collisions. The updates will include three sections, including providing an option for regenerative braking intensity selection in vehicles without the feature, adjusting the factory default state of regenerative braking strategy, as well as issuing reminders when the driver presses the acceleration pedal deeply for an extended period.
