Southeast University, headquartered in Nanjing, is a national key university directly under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. It is a key university under the state "Double First-class", "Project 985" and "Project 211". Selected in "Qomolangma Plan", "Strong Base Plan", "2011 Plan", "111 plan", Excellent engineer education and training plan, excellent doctor education and training plan, degree authorization independent audit unit, the first batch of future technical college construction universities, It is a member of the "Eight old Architecture Universities", the Alliance of Outstanding Universities, the Alliance of Universities for Sustainable Development in the Yangtze River Delta, the Alliance of Sino-British Universities for Engineering Education and Research, the Alliance of Sino-Russian Universities of Engineering, and the Alliance of carbon-neutral World Universities.

Southeast University originated from Sanjiang Normal School founded in 1902, and then went through important historical periods such as Liangjiang Normal School, Nanjing Higher Normal School, National Southeast University and National Central University. In 1952, the college of Engineering of the former National Central University was mainly incorporated into related departments of Fudan University, Jiaotong University, Zhejiang University and Jinling University. Nanjing Institute of Technology was established on the site of the headquarters of the National Central University (now Sipuilou Campus of Southeast University). In 1988, the name of Southeast University was restored. In 2000, it merged with the former Nanjing Railway Medical College, Nanjing Jiaotong College and Nanjing Geological School to form the new Southeast University.

By March 2022, the university has built Sipai Lou, Jiulong Lake, Dingjiaqiao and other campuses, covering a total area of 5,888 mu. It consists of 35 schools and departments, offering 87 undergraduate programs. It has 37 first-level doctoral programs and 49 first-level master's programs. Twelve disciplines were selected in the second round of "Double first-class" construction discipline list, and five disciplines obtained A+ in the fourth round of discipline evaluation. There are 36,628 full-time students; There are 3211 full-time teachers, including 1287 doctoral supervisors, 2422 master supervisors and 16 academicians.
