China&This Country Establish 30-Day Visa-Free Travel Arrangement
China and Singapore are working towards establishing a mutual 30-day visa-free travel arrangement, aiming to enhance people-to-people exchanges between the two countries. Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced this news during the 19th Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) held in Tianjin on December 7, 2023. The movement of people between Singapore and China has been steadily improving, with flight connectivity almost reaching pre-pandemic levels.
Wong expressed the hope to not only restore pre-pandemic levels but also surpass them in terms of direct flight connectivity. The new 30-day visa-free travel arrangement will play a crucial role in supporting this goal and strengthening bilateral relations. Currently, Singapore allows Chinese citizens to travel visa-free for up to 15 days, while Chinese citizens still need to apply for visas when traveling to Singapore. This 15-day visa-free policy was temporarily suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed on July 26, 2023.
Based on insights from the existing 15-day visa-free policy, it can be anticipated that the new 30-day visa-free travel arrangement will have the following features:
Only citizens with a valid ordinary passport will be eligible to apply for the 30-day visa-free travel arrangement.
The purposes of travel may include tourism, business, visiting relatives and friends, or transiting to a third country.
Travelers planning to study, work, settle down, or attend an interview in China/Singapore may still need to apply for the relevant visa.
